Sun's Up!

    Rays of bright yellow sunlight hardly peep in from this monsoon's gray clouds today, softly touching my cheeks as they enter my bedroom window upon waking up. This is a great start to clean up the mess from the flood that tormented our friends down south since heavy monsoon rains have been pouring nonstop over Luzon for five straight days or more now.

    I have had my share of flood experiences too in my childhood. I remember waking up for school one morning just to find out that flood waters have entered our home leg-deep. Living in PNR Compound back then was flood-prone. With swamps in our backyard and low, rough grounds up front, we always expect the unexpected. But as kids, we didn't see flood and all its problems. We saw "mini swimming pools."

    Mom still managed to cook breakfast in our flooded ground floor home, and as Kris and I woke up with the whiff of sunny side-ups and hotdogs and headed down the stairway, mom rushed in to carry us to the dining table and eat our hearty meal (while secretly dipping our little feet on the cold flood! Sneaky kids). She'd carry us to the bathroom for baths, carry us up to the room to get changed, and carry us out to the school bus for school. Mom would worry cleaning the house up after we were gone.

    This childhood memory was vivid as I saw these pictures from the web today.

    What's so admiring with Filipinos are their positivity and ability to move on. Their unfailing spirits and courageous Bayanihan acts prevailed amidst a few criticisms and blames from people who aren't even victims of the catastrophe. If only them blames could help in any way.

    Somehow we could learn from kids' thoughts - seeing the beautiful from the ugly, worrying less, and still flashing their widest smiles. Huhupa din ang baha at sisikat din ang araw.

    Life still goes on.
